About Bubbles X

I love macs… I always have. Thus, it was an object of consternation when my lovely wife fell for Windows Vista upon seeing their bubbles screensaver. Naturally, I wanted to keep the mac at home. As you can tell from this site, I’ve been developing little things for the Mac OS and other platforms for many years, so the thought crossed my mind now and then to port Bubbles to the Mac. I first started seriously considering the undertaking when reading an interview with the writer of the Vista Bubbles screensaver.

5 Weeks later… Bubbles X came into being. The mac stayed.

I had never written anything using OpenGL or Apple’s Core Image, and only done minimal work with Objective-C before this, so it was quite a learning experience. But it was a fun one

And with that, I present the Mac OS X port of the Bubbles screensaver.

Yes, I am fully aware that the physics do not behave exactly as in the original screensaver. This is because everything done here was reverse engineered. I am still observing the original, and will make improvements that make the mac port more like it as time goes on.
