My wife and I must have received this call well over a dozen times in the last months or two:

(Recording - Man’s Voice - Spoofed Caller-ID)

This is the second notice that the factory warranty on your vehicle may have expired and should be reactivated to protect you against the cost of repairs. If you have not responded to this notification, it’s not too late. Please don’t make the mistake of driving without a warranty. You are still eligible to reactivate warranty coverage. This is the final call before we close the file. Press two to be removed from the follow up list, or press one to speak with a representative now about your vehicle.

A little bit of Googling yeilds the following - I’m not sure how much is correct it all is, but here it is:

The company in charge of the ‘warranty’ operation is:
National Auto Warranty Services and Dealer Services
100 Mall Parkway Wentzville MO 63385-4816

They have a website:
http://www.enaws.com/ (Seems to be a blank site)
http://www.oneautowarranty.com/

Their real contact phone numbers are:
1-636-639-1620
1-800-724-8510 (Dealer Services)
1-800-649-1856 (Customer Service)
1-800-753-0870 (Administrative Office)

The fellow who runs the automated dialer system for the company is apparently Zack Austin. He can be e-mailed at zack.austin@enaws.com

At any rate, the kicker here is that while the recordings originated from the company above, apparently a number of other companies have re-recorded, and are now using, the exact same recording.

So, while we may have had a dozen calls in the last few months, they could technically each be from a different company. Hrm. I’ll post future updates here if I learn anything.

Update #1: If you are with Verizon, like my wife and I, you should read this article, which deals directly with the topic.

Update #2: This is kind of a “DUH” moment, but apparently registering for the Do Not Call List (at https://www.donotcall.gov/) seems have eliminated most of the calls.

Update #3: The FTC has made this kind of telemarketing call (i.e. automated pre-recorded messages) illegal effective late 2009 - you can read more about it here
